OVERVIEW 

General Mills is seeking a Data Scientist to work on our Global Consumer Insights (GCI) Marketing Analytics & Insights team. This team’s role is to provide analytics and statistical analyses that enable the business teams to better understand data, insights and potential actions related to business questions.

As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in building out the team’s machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities. We are looking for an exceptional person who has an entrepreneurial spirit and is passionate about data science (Machine Learning, Optimization, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, Transfer Learning, Deep Learning, etc.) As part of the Marketing Analytics & Insights team, you will use mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform data into advanced analytic solutions.

 

A typical workflow for our area includes taking a business question, developing an analysis plan to answer that question, executing that plan and developing a compelling story for our end business user so they take action on the insight. A successful candidate will have the right blend of computer programming, statistical knowledge, business acumen and storytelling. 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop machine learning and other AI models with Python, R, or other languages and tools
  • Mentor fellow data scientists to deliver across multiple data science projects
  • Scale analytics solutions to Big Data with Hadoop, Spark/PySpark and other Big Data tools
  • Responsible for performing highly complex activities related to creation, implementation, documentation and validation of complex models to quantify, analyze and predict the needs of our consumers.
  • Translating and summarizing complex analysis into understandable, actionable insights and recommendations that directly drive business strategy
  • Collaborate with others within the Global Consumer Insights function, serving as an analytic consultant
  • Effectively communicate results to all levels of the organization to influence business decisions
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree + 5 years experience OR Masters Degree + 2 years experience
  • Data Analytics, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related quantitative program
  • Experience in using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform data into advanced analytic solutions
  • Experience working with relational databases (Oracle, SQL) and Hadoop, comfortable in data manipulation on large data sets
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and collecting structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and modeling
  • Experience in creating reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics
  • Proficient with R, Python and SQL scripting languages
  • Able to analyze problems and strategize better solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree or PhD
  • 5+ years practical experience with data processing, database programming and data analytics
  • Experience working in a global team and remote team members
