Job Title: R&D Engineer/Scientist
Job Location: 9000 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55427; Some travel (up to 10-15%) may be required to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States.

Job Type: Full-Time  

 

General Mills, Inc. has an opening for a R&D Engineer/Scientist in Minneapolis, MN.

Duties: Responsible for the research and technical development of new, and the renovation of established, products, identifying efficiencies in ingredient functionality and processes through the product development lifecycle, and studying methods to improve aspects of assigned products. Work on cross functional teams that include Marketing, Consumer Insights, Supply Chain, Sourcing, Finance, Manufacturing, Logistics and Sales to set technical strategy plans for product innovation and renovation. Study methods to improve aspects of assigned products, such as chemical composition, flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, and convenience. Evaluate food processing and storage operations related to assigned products. Engage external partners around the world to increase efficiency and to identify relevant new capabilities. Interact with consumers and customers to develop meaningful insights, and translate them into concepts, prototypes, and commercial offerings. Develop technical depth and business acumen.

Qualifications

Requirements: Employer will accept Master’s degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Food Safety and Technology, or related field and one year of work experience in job offered or one year of work experience in a consumer food product or process development-related occupation. Position requires experience with the following: 1) Designing and executing experiments to determine the effect of food ingredients and processing conditions on the attributes of a food product (1 year); 2) Working with food product shelf life testing, management, and extensions; 3) Using knowledge of chemistry, food science, and engineering for food product commercialization from concept through implementation, including designing and developing new products, processes, and improvements to existing products from initial idea to finished product; 4) Applying U.S. regulatory requirements to food production, including working knowledge of FDA, USDA and FSMA requirements; and, 5) Applying food process design principles for sanitary design of new product development or improvements to existing products (1 year). Some travel (up to 10-15%) may be required to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States.
