OVERVIEW

The Corporate Communications Senior Associate leads development and execution of General Mills’ Talent Brand communications efforts and focuses on the advancement of General Mills’ reputation through our key Corporate Brand storytelling platforms of Talent Brand, Corporate Social Responsibility and Innovation. The role supports General Mills’ broader executive positioning and conference engagement strategy and has day-to-day responsibilities that include media relations, internal communications, content creation, research and reporting.

 

The individual must have demonstrated experience in communications strategy (planning, channels savvy, counseling, measurement), as well as execution (writing, media relations and event management). The candidate should have experience managing stakeholders and activating communications and branding campaigns to support — and make a case for — investment.

 

This position reports to the Manager of Corporate Brand Communications.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Execute communications that advance General Mills’ Talent Brand, as well as the company’s broader Corporate Brand reputation, internally and externally, both separate from and through alignment with one or more of our iconic product brands.
  • Tell compelling stories through a variety of external channels and tactics, including press releases, blogs, pitches, key messages, Q&As and more.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for the company at industry and consumer conferences, pitch executives as speakers and, where relevant, make a case for sponsorship engagement.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for the company with top business and consumer media, pitch stories and prepare leaders for media engagements.
  • Assist in managing the company’s media line, triage incoming calls to the media team and manage inquiries as assigned.
  • Nurture relationships with external stakeholders key to the corporate reputation of General Mills around the world.
  • Engage and inspire employees through creative storytelling and multimedia.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, public relations, communications, marketing or related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years communications experience in a corporate or agency setting.
  • Highly independent self-starter capable of managing multiple priorities on competing timelines, with a bias for action.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence across functions and reporting levels.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (writing samples required).
  • Experience in creative storytelling and omnichannel delivery.
  • Undergraduate degree in public relations, communications, marketing or related field.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing events, from logistics to content development.
  • Aptitude for social media engagement and management of social platforms.
  • Experience managing sensitive issues, both reactively and proactively, in stewardship of a corporate reputation.
