Overview & Responsibilities

Within General Mills, our manufacturing facilities are committed to achieving zero human and food safety incidents and it is every employee’s responsibility to fully support this vision. Refrigeration Technicians are hired as members of a manufacturing team.  They are responsible for the preventative and reactive maintenance of utility systems within the manufacturing facility.

The General Mills-Wellston plant operates up to 12 hours per day and at times 7 days per week. Changes in volume and production requirements can result in changes in work schedule and additional overtime.  Refrigeration Technicians must be willing to work any shift including nights and weekends.  Alternative schedules are available. 

The pay range for a Refrigeration Technician position could range from $22.60 to $28.60 per hour with periodic merit increases and pay for skills.  General Mills offers shift differential payment for those working off-shift.   A Pay for Skills Program is designed to provide development opportunities for Refrigeration Technicians which can lead to higher salaries.  Additionally we offer a comprehensive benefits package including a 401(k) plan, gainsharing, medical and dental benefits, vacation and holidays.    

Main Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment
  • Provide technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and equipment modifications
  • Maintain facility equipment supporting production
  • Perform both uptime and down time preventative maintenance in adherence to the master PM schedule
  • Perform corrective maintenance work orders
  • Perform daily rounds/checks of ammonia system
  • Troubleshoot pump recirculating systems and liquid transfer systems
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives in order to increase platform performance
  • Train others on Utilities systems such as engine room, freezers, etc. 
  • Report unsafe conditions to plant safety personnel
  • Assist with training new employees as needed
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required
  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • 2 years refrigeration experience or equivalent eduction preferred
  • Possess minimum two years electrical and mechanical maintenance experience
  • Possess minimum two years’ expereience with steam boilers
  • Working knowledge of industrial ammonia refrigeration
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Willing and able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
  • Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical degree in industrial maintenance or related field
  • Continuing education in maintenance/technical skills
  • Computer Maintenance Management System experience
  • Priority will be given to those possessing a current HazMat Technician Level Emergency Response Certificate and/or CIRO or CARO Certification through RETA
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
