OVERVIEW 

We are seeking a Data Scientist to work in our Consumer and Market Intelligence (CMI) Marketing Analytics & Insights team. This team’s role is to provide analytics and statistical analyses that enable the business teams to better understand data, insights and potential actions to drive our business.

This particular role will focus on Scenario Forecasting.  General Mills is creating a new capability around Strategic Foresights that looks at the possibilities of our businesses in the future.  Using Data and Analytics, this person will partner with others in CMI to develop scenarios of what our businesses may look like in 5, 10 and 20 years from now.  Using data and analytics, this role will help develop data products that help create credible scenarios of the future.  Then this role will turn those scenarios into business implications for us.

 

As a Data Scientist, you will play a key role in building out the team’s machine learning and artificial intelligence capabilities to help scan and develop future scenarios and using forecasting methods develop the business implications of those scenarios. We are looking for an exceptional person who has an entrepreneurial spirit and is passionate about data science (Monte Carlo Simulation, Machine Learning, Optimization, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, Transfer Learning, Deep Learning, etc.) As part of the Marketing Analytics & Insights team, you will use mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform data into advanced analytic solutions.

 

A successful candidate will have the right blend of financial & risk analysis, computer programming, statistical knowledge, business acumen and storytelling. 

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop Forecasts that detail the business implications of future potential scenarios
  • Develop and partner with external vendors that leverage AI to help scan the environment that helps create credible future scenarios
  • Responsible for performing highly complex activities related to creation, implementation, documentation and validation of complex models to quantify, analyze and predict the needs of our consumers.
  • Ability to take qualitative concepts and create quantifiable analyses through the use of data and analytics
  • Translating and summarizing complex analysis into understandable, actionable insights and recommendations that directly drive business strategy
  • Collaborate with others within the Consumer and Market Intelligence function, serving as an analytic consultant
  • Effectively communicate results to all levels of the organization to influence business decisions
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related quantitative program
  • 5+ years experience in analytics and data science
  • Prior experience working with or in a Strategic Foresights group that does scenario planning and analysis
  • Experience in using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform data into advanced analytic solutions
  • Experience working with relational databases (Oracle, SQL) and Hadoop, comfortable in data manipulation on large data sets
  • Experience in developing, maintaining, and collecting structured and unstructured data sets for analysis and modeling
  • Experience in creating reports, projections, models, and presentations to support business strategy and tactics
  • Proficient with R, Python and SQL scripting languages
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD
  • Experience working in a global team and remote team members
