Overview & Responsibilities

Within General Mills, our manufacturing facilities are committed to achieving zero human and food safety incidents and it is every employee’s responsibility to fully support this vision. Line Technicians are hired as members of a manufacturing team.  They are responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of various processing and packaging equipment throughout the facility.

The General Mills-Kansas City plant operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Changes in volume and production requirements can result in changes in work schedule and additional overtime. Mill Utility Seasonal employees must be willing to work any shift including nights and weekends. General Mills also offers shift differential payment for those working off-shift. 

The starting wage for a Mill Utility Seasonal position is $16.85 hr.  The Seasonal time frame runs June 1 through October 30th depending on business needs could last longer.  

Main Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

    • Follows all safety guidelines in the department including proper use of PPE and lockout procedures
    • Responsible for sweeping floors, brushing equipment, blowing down overheads with an air hose, scrubbing, shoveling and vacuuming in the all areas of the mill facility.
    • Perform preventive and reactive maintenance activities within capabilities on milling department equipment and assist maintenance as needed with higher level tasks. Write and enter work orders
    • Maintains the processing-related areas in an organized and sanitary manner within FDA GMP guidelines; performs routine cleaning activities of all processing areas.
    • Performs other tasks and assists other functional areas of the department as needed and required.
    • Physical activities include sweeping, shoveling, vacuuming, lifting/opening/dumping a minimum of 50# containers, climbing ladders and stairs, reaching/pulling/restacking packaged ingredients, scooping, maneuvering roll stand rolls, etc…
    • Assists in the sanitation of the mill facility, including sweeping and shoveling
    • Perform preventive and reactive maintenance activities within capabilities on milling department equipment and assist maintenance as needed with higher level tasks.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • 1 or more years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including: standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces
  • Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends
  • Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective equipment
  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment
