Overview & Responsibilities

The Chanhassen facility is a frozen and refrigerated dough plant that supports multiple businesses (Convenience and Food Service and Baking Retail) within General Mills. It is a non-union facility with approximately 330 General Mills employees supplemented by up to 200 temporary employees daily depending on product mix. Chanhassen provides a flexible manufacturing solution to the company with 180 different products resulting in 2500+ changeovers. The plant has a very diverse workforce staffed across 10 lines with operations across three shifts and up to seven days per week.

The Continuous Improvement / Manufacturing Lead:

  • Provides safety and servant-based leadership to achieve breakthrough production results on a specific production line/system
  • Is accountable for developing and delivering the weekly, monthly and 90-day plans to deliver the glidepath through rigorous application of Foundational systems and Driving System Utilization
  • Is accountable for driving out losses using rigorous Daily Direction Setting and developing the plan for the day
  • Has ownership of Safety, Quality, System Utilization (SU), Actual Vs. Commit (AVC) and Clean Inspect Lubricate (CIL) systems and Planned Stops
  • Owns ensuring the development of the operating teams’ technical capability
  • Will spend the majority of their day on the floor with the operating teams building the capability of the people in their area
  • Provides daily direction and coaching to the Process Lead and Maintenance Lead to deliver breakthrough results and is ultimately accountable for the results of the line/system
  • Will build capability in the Process Lead and Maintenance Lead roles and must be able to cover their responsibilities in their short-term absence
  • Will work primarily first shift (5:00am-2:00pm – hours may vary)

RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • System Owner- Single point accountability for the line/ system results
  • Owns Human and Food safety for the line/system and action plans for improvement
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback and coaching to line team members
  • Builds capability in technicians, in order to identify, measure and drive out losses on their equipment
  • Support of the developmental plan for the Line Team
  • Owns identifying training gaps for the technicians on the system as well as developing and ensuring execution of training plan to address these gaps
  • Owns DDS process including:
    • Leads daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly – including recognition of team members
    • Lead the development and execution of Plan for the Day – including development and handoff of plan for off shifts
    • Health of CIL system
    • Implementation and evolution of Planned Stops

Loss Elimination

  • Single point of ownership of the 90-Day improvement plan to deliver the glidepath.
  • Facilitates development of the line/system 90-Day Plans to address losses and build capability
  • Owns delivery of line targeted results (including financials)

People Leadership

  • Manage the shift:
    • On-shift safety, quality of product, execution of shift specific improvement plan actions
    • Daily staffing
    • Directing work of operators/technicians
    • Shift Hand-offs
    • Workbrain
    • Temp employee management
    • Onboarding of employees
    • Team Development
    • Performance management and incentives
    • Own accuracy and timeliness of performance metrics for shift
    • Start-up and changeover execution
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years manufacturing or related experienced required, 4+ years preferred
  • Ability to work primarily first shift (5:00am-2:00pm – hours may vary)
  • Continuous Improvement experience
  • Working knowledge of data systems including MAXIMO, MQIS, and INSQL
  • Previous experience in Process Lead role and/or Maintenance Lead role
  • Demonstrated capability in application of Foundational Systems and Driving SU.
  • Demonstrated basic technical capability on at least one product platform
