Overview & Responsibilities

OVERVIEW: 

The Covington Plant is a non-union facility providing over 350 jobs to the Covington, GA area. Covington produces both cereal and snacks, with some of its most notable products being Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch & Bugles. The plant is a high performance/flexible work system that operates 24 hours a day – 7 days a week, with 8 production teams (4 teams at East, 4 teams at West).

The Logistics Planner is responsible for providing logistics support through production scheduling/materials, planning to meet customer service goals, plant efficiency targets and supply targets. This role requires collaboration with other members of the logistics team (planning, warehousing, inventory control) and cross functionally with members of plant operations, quality, GMI corporate resources, and with suppliers.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Outbound Planning: 

  • Efficiently manage trailer pool and coordinate all outbound shipments for the site
  • Maximize cubes per shipment as appropriate and notify carriers and plant personnel of changes as needed
  • Work closely with QRO to ensure Hold product is secure.
  • Communicate weekly micro-testing product to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide Material Handlers and Shippers with daily outbound orders.
  • Develop working relationship with contract shippers and spotters and serve as point person for their operation

Raw Materials Planning:

  • Order raw materials and manage inventories to ensure adequate supply while considering costs, production requirements, transportation and space limitations.
  • Understand and be able to effectively use SAP and MRP for planning.
  • Set-up, order and plan new materials to support plant and corporate initiatives.
  • Develop solid relationship with suppliers.
  • Ensure proper rotation and inventory turns to minimize age and disposition costs.

Production Planning: 

  • Develop production schedules that maximize processing efficiency while maintaining optimal customer service levels.
  • Order packaging materials and manage inventories, ensuring proper rotation and inventory turns.
  • Effectively coordinate plant tests, customer promotions and premiums.
  • Develop a close working relationship across departments and with key corporate contacts.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree (Planning/Materials Mgmt/Logistics Operations degrees preferred)
  • 1-3 years manufacturing or related experience
  • Available for additional hours as needed and able to flex work schedule to support 24/7 business operation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Raw materials planning experience preferred
  • Knowledge of SAP and have had some past material planning experience.
  • Possess a high level of initiative and energy to influence and lead change.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Solid computer background (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize. Able to lead in a fast-paced, complex work environment.
  • Clear standards of personal integrity, business ethics and values.
  • Strong conceptual skills and ability to implement change.
  • Desire to work cross-functionally and interact with personnel in a team-based, high performance environment.
  • Ability to be effective in a position that demands flexibility and versatility.
