Overview & Responsibilities

The Financial Analyst performs financial analyses across various groups.   

  • Compiles and prepares reports, graphs, charts, and written financial summaries
  • Supports a defined operational group and communicates with various management levels
  • Acts as the key Finance and Accounting liaison with the Operations team in areas of financial training, general financial statement support, inventory accuracy, General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal controls (e.g., Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivables [AR], audits, etc.) and annual budgeting

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Owns financial budgets and reporting for approximately five customer service facilities and warehouses operated by third party logistics (3PL) providers.
  • Manages all capital projects for the assigned warehouses in the General Mills capital management tool.
  • Develops insightful annual budgets for assigned warehouses and explains key drivers of change.
  • Produces monthly financial reports to explain variances between business plan and forecast, actual results, and trends.
  • Develops monthly reports as needed to conduct financial analysis (e.g., accounts payable spend, open AR balances, Construction in Progress [CIP] aging, etc.).
  • Supports requests from internal groups (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Quality, Sales, etc.) to provide analysis on various issues (e.g., fixed assets, CIP, AR, inter-company charges, etc.).
  • Updates monthly and quarterly forecasts to ensure accurate forecasts are maintained.
  • Trains on planning and forecasting tools and methodologies to provide education to the operations team.
  • Analyzes natural account balances (e.g., labor, occupancy, supply expenses, etc.) to identify areas for cost improvement.
  • Supports the development and documentation of policies and procedures to ensure consistency in financial processes (e.g., SOX, proper general ledger coding, etc.)
  • Assists in developing and conducting systems training to ensure users effectively utilize tools provided.
  • Uses internal systems tools (e.g. SAP) to conduct detailed analysis of inventory management and site budgets.
  • Oversee execution of multiple site wide physical inventory counts conducted by 3PL partners
  • Interface with the management team of a 3PL partner, providing guidance and direction in accordance with General Mills inventory control standards.
  • Creates insightful presentations/reports that capture financial/non-financial concepts within a clearly illustrated approach. 
  • Compiles and prepares reports, graphs, and charts of data with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Provide accounting controls for the finished product movement and inventory.
  • Provide accounting controls over fixed assets by tagging equipment, recording property transfers and performing periodic audits.
  • Conduct detailed, independent analyses across a broad range of financial, operational and strategic considerations. 
  • Effectively and appropriately communicates information and analytical results to managers and senior management, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 5 years related experience required
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong communicator, relationship builder, and team player

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • Experience using financial and inventory management tools
