Overview & Responsibilities

The Sensory Scientist ensures products are optimized and the quality as designed delivers on the critical sensory design principles and the job to be done.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Influence and lead as the product design subject matter expert on the cross functional business team
  • Lead projects through appropriate product and packaging consumer and sensory learning plans from optimization to confirmatory testing, inclusive of building foundational product knowledge, protecting product quality, and enhancing consumer understanding
  • Facilitate consumer interactions to grow consumer empathy
  • Champion the consumer product voice as the sensory representative on business teams
  • Collaborate with global team members on global initiatives for the platform
  • Translate data to insights through synthesis of qualitative consumer learning and interpretation of statistical analyses of quantitative sensory and consumer testing
  • Communicate key findings in a relevant and easy to understand manner and guide business teams to next steps in the product development process
Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph. D degree in Sensory Science, Food Science, Psychology, or related field
  • 2 years of Sensory Science, Consumer Learning or related experience
  • Strong sensory science technical skills, including a fundamental understanding of human perception and psychophysics
  • Competence in independently planning and executing sensory and/or consumer research
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and influence skills
  • Business partnering skills
  • Effective facilitation skills to lead competitive reviews, objective team tastings, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Consumer interviewing skills
  • Ability to independently manage resources and leverage existing data to effectively lead and influence multiple projects
  • Demonstrated understanding of applied statistical analysis, including design of experiments and multivariate analysis techniques
