Overview & Responsibilities

In Nutrition Technology Solutions (NTS), we help businesses transform consumer-centric possibilities into realities through science. We build and advance technical solutions to enable innovations and drive efficiencies in ingredients, process, and products.  We are seeking a highly skilled engineer who is enthusiastic about tackling non-traditional food industry problems. This individual will: (1) Pursue and transform new & fuzzy problems or ideas into technical activities; (2) Develop advantaged technical solutions internally or with an external partner; (3) Apply scientific and engineering rigor to technical problem solving, including the use of, or development of, computational and modeling tools wherever appropriate. 

The Sr Engineer for Technology & Food Systems Modeling will also serve as a focal point to bring engineering problem-solving discipline to benefit other project teams (NTS and Global Innovation, Technology & Quality (ITQ) teams). He or she will provide sound engineering assessment to new technology development, applying the lens of technology scalability and engineering commercialization criteria, even in the early stages of development while leveraging data analytics, computational, and modeling techniques to help others get smart in problem definition and problem-solving.  This role will help other teams apply early engineering economic analysis to pivot approaches, accelerate innovation, and increase the rate of technology adoptions and identify areas where GMI can apply predictive computational and food system modeling tools to help us reduce the cost of experimentation, uncover hidden insights, move faster, and cheaper to drive global impact. 

The position will have the opportunity for advancement as GMI increases emphasis in its digital transformation.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead technology development projects independently with general guidance.
  • Plan, organize, and execute research on traditional and non-traditional GMI problems.
  • Work collaboratively with larger cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Develop technical plans, test hypothesis, and document learning at various scales, from lab to pilot plant.
  • Apply and continue to develop basic ingredient and product formulation skills as part of the solution package.
  • Apply business acumen and influence cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Present learning and communicate technical outcomes to key project stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to entry-level/new developers or technicians.
  • Build and apply technical and practical knowledge in one or more technical areas
Qualifications

Minimum 

  • MS in a related science/engineering field
  • 3+ yrs of experience
  • Strong engineering expertise with R&D experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Robust computational and modeling skills
  • Demonstrates results orientation, leadership, and initiative
  • Demonstrates strong strategic thinking, communication and engaging leader skills 
  • Collaboration, strong interpersonal skills 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred 

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering or related degree
  • 5+ yrs experience
  • Modeling experience highly preferred
  • The ideal candidate is one with strong engineering expertise, familiar with Food Industry Unit-Ops and manufacturing platforms, with a basic working knowledge of food science, along with interest and experience in applying computational tools to model food systems and solve problems
  • Ability to work externally and partner with experts across the industry and academia
